“Miroirs”- new CD for Alexander Krichel

04 Feb 2017

German pianist Alexander Krichel releases his fourth CD for Sony. After dedicating his last record to the great Russian romantic Sergej Rachmaninov, Alexander’s new album travels to France to explore the works of one of the most important impressionists: Maurice Ravel. The new disc features Ravel’s three major piano cycles: Le Tombeau de Couperin, Miroirs and Gaspard de la nuit: three pieces that could not be more different from one another. While Tombeau appears lovable and innocent, Miroirs generally occupies darker spheres of tonality. However, the final cycle of the album, Gaspard de la nuit, is one of the darkest and most demanding works of piano literature ever created. Some of Alexander’s upcoming dates include a return to the Bremer Philharmoniker for Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No 2 and the Polish Chamber Philharmonic in Sopot; debut recitals at the newly opened Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, Ruhr Klavier-Festival in Essen and Beethovenfest in Bonn.
