Roland Böer returns to Italy in his role as Artistic and Music Director of the 41st Cantiere Internazionale d'Arte di Montepuliciano. The Festival, comprising over 40 events, including opera, symphonic and chamber music concerts, contemporary ballet and theatre, and involving more than 400 Artists, runs from 15 to 31 July in Montepulciano and the Siena area. Founded in 1976 by Hans Werner Henze, the Cantiere promotes interaction between international professionals and young talented artists. Roland Böer, who has been closely involved with the project since 2009 and is passionate about its aims, this year conducts the Orchestra Poliziano on 17 July, followed by two concerts with the RNCM Orchestra on 27 and 31 July, in programmes of works by composers such as Cherubini, Henze, Mendelssohn, Beethoven and Pizzini. One of the highlights of this year’s festival is the world premiere on 15 July of Icarus, an opera by David Blake and Keith Warner, conducted by Roland Böer, after which he accompanies on the piano the world-famous soprano Susan Bullock in a recital of Four Cabaret Songs from Scoring a Century – an entertainment, also by David Blake and Keith Warner.
